Google mail is down again…

It seems that Google Mail is down again this afternoon – first having problems accessing address books, now the mail is not working at all…

Having used Gmail for many years, and Google apps for 2 or 3 now, all my email routes through Google, as well as many clients I have recommended use it.

There are so many advantages for commercial email accounts, hooking in with Blackberries, being able to share and collaborate on docs etc…

But they need to ensure that the dependency and trust they encourage is warranted and deserved. As far as I know there have been several major outages this year alone. If this trend continues, many corporate users, including myself and clients, will be seeking other solutions.

New office Location in Plymouth

The Business Centre, Plymouth

The Business Centre, Plymouth

After spending a lot of this year visiting with clients in the USA and Canada, Creating Causes have relocated to a new base in Plymouth, Devon – in the South West of England.

The brand new offices in the ‘Business Centre’  provide an ideal central location from which to work and meet clients.

The office space also helps reduce the environmental impact of our activities – the office is within easy walking distance of Plymouth City Centre, and with shared space, and resources, in a new environmentally conscious designed building, this move affirms our commitment to creating causes for a better future…

Interviewed in the Chicago Tribune

One of my volunteer positions is Multimedia Manager for ResQglobal – an international search and resuce organization.

A team were recently in Costa Rica helping with the search for missing US Grad student David Gimelfarb from Chicago. Also helping with th esearch were the Red Cross, and a US Militry team sent to assist from Honduras.

Throughout the mission, I was being fed live reports from the field, which went direct to various media outlets, including the ResQglobal website www.resqglobal.com and Twitter etc.

More than 1,000 people also signed up to the ‘Help Find David Gimelfarb’ Facebook page – these numbers alone caught media attention.

We were contacted by a journalist from the Chicago Tribune in the US to comment on how social networking sites such as Facebook, affect mobilizing support and a campaign to help search for someone like David. Below is what I was quoted as saying…

“There are so many people that it becomes like a critical mass, and decision-makers find it hard to resist,” said Roger Hyde, multimedia manager for London-based ResQglobal, a private search-and-rescue operation now involved in the hunt for Gimelfarb. “I don’t know that we would have been made aware of it had it not been for Facebook. Without social media, none of this would have happened.”

New site ready to go…

Got this new site just about ready to go – I’m always surprised how simple and straight forward it is to set up new sites using WordPress templates…

This site is really just a showcase for some of my skills, and to offer existing business partners an idea of my background, to add some confidence. if it brings in some new work, that’s even better!

This blog section will have some regular content added – some technical news that cacthes my eye that I will comment on, something that interests me personally, or some news about a new work project being developed.

For now there’s just this post… and that’s a wrap :-)
